Understanding Political Terminology (Part II)
Here are some more terms and terminology to help you get up to speed for your next political discussion. ACLU is an acronym for the American Civil Liberties Union which is a nonprofit, nonpartisan litigation and lobbying organization that defends freedom of expression, privacy, due process, and equal protection on behalf of anyone, no matter how unpopular the issue.Bush Derangement Syndrome (BDS) is the term referring to a state-of-mind that affects some liberals who blame President George W. Bush for virtually every ill in the world.Depression refers to a prolonged and very severe financial recession as well as the economic crisis which began around the time of the stock market crash in October 1929 and continued through the 1930s.Eugenics focuses on improving the human gene pool by discouraging procreation by persons with undesirable traits.Greenhouse Gases are gases in the atmosphere that absorb and emit radiation. Environmentalists believe that fossil fuels have increased the levels of one of these gases carbon dioxide and there is much controversy if this is a natural occurrence in nature or man-made.Junk Science is a term used to describe false or misleading research that is offered as real science, but was not obtained using accepted scientific methods. The term “junk science” is often applied to deceptive environmental and health studies.MSM is an acronym formainstream media which refers to the major television networks, radio shows, and newspapers.PETA is an acronym for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and as a group they support animal “rights” by protesting medical testing on animals and the use of animals to make clothing, cosmetics, or other consumables (including food).Vast Right Wing Conspiracy is a term coined by Hillary Rodham-Clinton to describe the accusations of, and the investigations into, President Bill Clinton’s alleged misconduct and alleged illegal activities during his Presidency.
